The record breaking 80,000 people to visit Cooly Rocks On in Coolangatta recently did not let rain ruin their parade.

The 10-day 50s and 60s nostalgia festival featured more than 1300 classic cars, as well as rock ‘n’ roll bands and countless Elvis impersonators.

Annual festival-goer and Gold Coast resident David Piper said  the rain didn’t spoil his experience.

“There were still crowds and everyone loved the rockabilly atmosphere,” he said.

“We will brave rain, hail or shine.”

This year brought the introduction of Miss Cooly Rocks On Vintage Glamour Pageant, which was a search for the most rockabilly pin-up girl.

Event Chairperson Gail O’ Neil said that the competition brought a new experience and something exciting to the event.

“It has been facilitated by That Shop that sells all those beautiful vintage clothes and they’ve had 48 entrants,” she said.

Cherie Amour was the winner and as a prize was a star in the Cooly Rocks On Street Parade and received a doubled page feature in PinupSkool Magazine.

Cooly Rocks On CEO Bob Newman said that crowds also enjoyed attractions like retro markets, swing dancing and more than 50 rock ‘n’ roll bands.

“We have bands coming from all over Australia, promising a whole lot of shakin’ goin’ on as the beachside precincts swing into 10 action-packed days of non-stop rock ‘n’ roll, rockabilly, swing dancing, competitions, music, live performances, $50-million plus worth of classic, custom and hot rod cars on display, street cruises, bikes, retro markets and heaps more attractions,” he said.
