Meditation has taken new form on the Gold Coast by combining yoga with live music, food and culture.

The Australian School of Meditation and Yoga (ASMY) launched The Mantra Room at the end of October, featuring live music known as Kirtan.

Organiser of The Mantra Room Radha Krishna das said Kirtan is about taking what people naturally like to do and using that as a means for spiritual advancement and perfection.yoga2

“Kirtan lifts the spirit and brings joy to the heart through sacred mantra with music, song and dance, especially in the company of others, to stimulate the release of endorphins,” said Mr Krishna das.

“A mantra is an uplifting, spiritual sound vibration which helps draw our mind away from the material dimension with all of its hassles, stresses, and worries.”

Yoga and meditation instructor and Kirtan band member Amara Cauci said people can’t just get up and go live in a cave to be at peace.

“You don’t need to give up your life to meditate,” Ms Cauci said.

“The Mantra Room includes it all, using very practical techniques to combat stress and negative side effects.

“Any one sound has such an effect; people leave feeling very nourished.”

Ms Cauci said she got involved with yoga and meditation after feeling materially burnt out.

“I knew there must be more to life; I was looking for a healthy way to relieve stress,” she said.

“Kirtan meditation is so much fun.”

ASMY offers nine Kirtan meditations Australia-wide, with two weekly events on the Gold Coast: The Mantra Room, in addition to live streaming.

The Mantra Room is an intimate celebration in an enchanting atmosphere helping to de-clutter the mind.

Organiser of The Mantra Room Radha Krishna das said: “It’s a wonderful feeling to be in a room with 200 people all smiling, moving their bodies and singing.”

The Mantra Room is held at ASMY in Nobby Beach on Fridays at 6.30pm and Fradgley Hall at Burleigh on Sundays at 5pm, also offers fresh vegetarian meals for five dollars.

The official site for ASMY said the Kirtan tradition began with Indian instruments and is the most powerful and enjoyable meditation.
