Get out your blue suede shoes, the annual Elvis: Viva Surfers Paradise is returning next Friday.

The 10-day-long free festival consist of vintage hair workshops, car shows, dance lessons, wedding renewals, Elvis impersonator contest and multiple tribute shows.

Surfers Paradise alliance marking executive Cisco Sara said the event is a social calendar highlight and attracts many locals and tourist alike.

“It is the ultimate Elvis tribute festival, celebrating the life and music of the king of rock and roll,” he said.

“The event offers residents and tourists a unique opportunity to relive their favourite musical memories from the ’50s and ’60s through a variety of performances and activities throughout the precinct.

“Last year, Viva Surfers Paradise attracted 13,500 and this year the event is expected to attract 16,200 attendees.”

It may be pure entertainment for spectators but the contest is serious business for performers.

Elvis tribute artist Pete Memphis is returning for his second year of competition and the release of his live show, Elvis Extravaganza with live Vegas band.

Pete said the competition is extremely tough but equally as enjoyable.

“Last year the judges deducted points from someone because a jewel fell off his jumpsuit mid performance,” he said.

“The atmosphere is amazing and honestly last year was the highlight of my life, well after my wedding!”

This year couples can participate in vow renewing by the king himself.

Elvis tribute performer Dean Vegas swaps his judging role for the prestige position of marriage celebrant.

“I was a judge last year and the year before but this year I will be renewing the wedding vows of couples not only from Australia but also overseas,” Mr Vegas said.

“It will be lots of fun as couples recommit their love for each other in an Elvis sort of way.”

This year marks the event’s third year, which will be celebrating at its new venue, The Hotel Grand Chancellor Surfers Paradise.

Director of sales at Hotel Grand Chancellor Surfers Paradise John Tarrant said the hotel is extremely excited to be hosting the unique event.

“It’s a good community and light hearted event, that the community really gets involved in,” he said.

“It’s not too serious and a bit of fun which is really what Surfers Paradise needs.”

The vintage and Vegas event runs from July 11 to 20.
