The Gold Coast Mayor’s International Student Ambassadors took part in a half-day kayaking adventure in Southport recently as part of their role in showcasing the Coast to the world.

The program is an initiative of Study Gold Coast and aims to promote the Gold Coast as an ideal destination for education by sharing ambassadors’ experiences via social media.

The 2015 program started in March and the ambassadors have experienced several activities including a surf lesson and Dreamworld day tour.

This time, the activity was supported by Australian Kayaking Adventures, and seven ambassadors enjoyed kayaking, snorkeling and beach walking.

One of the international student ambassadors, Lizeth Chaparro, from Colombia, said that she enjoyed every aspect of the adventure and was going to share the experience by making good uses of pictures.

“It was a great adventure and opportunity to share with friends … and of course enjoy the amazing places that we can only find on the Gold Coast,” she said.

“I think pictures we took are good to show everyone that we truly enjoyed this activity.

“Sometimes words are not enough, especially here where the activities and views are stunning and hard to describe.”

According to Australian Kayaking Adventures business owner Steven Vah, the ambassadors seemed to enjoy the day, and he hopes this will encourage more people to experience activities on the Gold Coast.

“I just hope they will share the experiences and tell people what they did and what it was like, so more people come,” he said.

“It was great to have them here.”

For July, the ambassadors will go whale watching and attend a football game, as well as the Fraser Island adventure.

Ms Chaparro said that making their time unforgettable was the best way to promote the Gold Coast.

“I think it is a great program that gives us the opportunity not only to meet new people but also encourage us to try new things and challenge ourselves to do more and share with everyone the experience,” she said.

“At the end, it’s all about telling everyone why we choose this city and why we like to be here.

“So far one of my best decisions.”
