Sport can be a good alternative to the pressure of studying so Bond Business student Verena Hueni participated at the Tour de Tamborine running the 10km Mountain Top Walk on November 15, 2015.

The Sports Festival is a great community event, helping to raise money for local beneficiaries held on top of the mountain over one weekend each November.

The event brings exciting sports action, education and activities to the Scenic Rim region and Gold Coast Hinterland for everyone to enjoy and participate.

Business student Verena Hueni, who runs a half-marathon in at home in Germany, had 1hr02m for the 10km.

“I’m very proud of my result,” she said.

Because of the intense studying she runs a lot in Australia to clear her head. This gave her the idea to join the run.

run1The race started at 6.40am and went through the hills of the Tamborine Mountain.

“Even if I had to get up at 4am in the morning – it was worth it,” she said.

Verena said that she did not expect the route to be so challenging, because she is not used to running in the mountains.

“Where I live there are no hills at all. I do not have to run up and down,” she said.

PM9 Events + Activations Media spokespersson Emma Porter said the event was a success.

“Over the weekend we had over 2000 participants,” she said.

Ms Porter said that the number of participants is constantly growing.

“We believe that supporting local events is very important to ensure their long-term viability on the Gold Coast,” she said.

Ms Porter said they have raised over $150,000 since they started the Tour de Tamborine 13 years ago.
