The 14th annual Gold Coast Film Festival will feature 80 films and film-related events plus 14 short films at the annual SIPfest, which runs from today (March 31) to April 10.

The 2016 Gold Coast Film Festival will include special guests including Stephen Page, Claudia Karvan, Gracie Otto, Reg Cribb and David Stratton.

Festival Director Lucy Fisher said the 2016 program provides a strong platform of aspiring film-makers, and Oscar nominees.

“This year the Festival program offers a diverse selection of some of the most popular films from Queensland and around the world, and from both first-time filmmakers to Academy Award nominees,” she said.

“The program is filled with 80 screenings, events, seminars, and films offering something for families, students and inspired filmmakers”.

The festival is a perfect foreground for international filmmakers to make their debut and is focused on developing the next generation of local talent with providing a chance for university students to submit their work.

Film and Television student Patrick Slattery attends the festival each year for a series of workshops with an annual short film competition transforming Surfers Paradise beach into a vibrant and unique cinema.

“The chance to be able to submit my own work and compete in short film competitions with elite producers allows me to grow into the film and television department and learn the behind-the-scene responsibilities that come with producing,” he said.

“The program offered by the Gold Coast Film Festival is jammed-packed with quality films and events, with each showing a diverse difference which grabbed my attention in knowing I can produce different films.”

The Gold Coast Film Festival continues to expand to different markets, for the first time in 14 years, having a YScreen, a program of entertainment and intelligent films and workshops for children and teens.
